Brief Introduction of Sociology

  • In my field of Sociology, we focus on multiple aspects of social behavior that people experience and use everyday. It is a social science that uses various methods of research like critical analysis and personal interactions with people or institutions. Also, we are interested in figuring out what makes people act the way they do, and change their social orders from time to time. It’s a hard and long process that involves multiple approaches of research. Each type of research gives us a different idea of what is happening. In sociology, there is a usually a specific study that most likely won’t have an exact answer but could possibly help sociologist better understand our society and how we function/contribute to various factors. Since it is such a broad topic and needs multiple studies there has to be detailed studies that tell us more, and also some that don’t need to be looked at as in depth.

Conclusion

Overall, sociological research doesn’t just have one type of research method; there are multiple ways that we have to find information and it starts from knowledge that we have to work with from other studies and theories. There is an example of discourse community in sociology and especially my example from criminology because once we start to learn more about it, we share the same goals as everyone working towards it. All of these different ways of communicating and finding out more demonstrates how we share a common outlook on the subject. Without all of these topics working together there wouldn’t be a plausible outcome that researchers and the community could learn from. They all work to help each other.
